Tsum Valley Circuit Trekking

Tsum Valley is known as the “hidden valley” because it is located in a very remote area in the North of Kathmandu. The valley lies between the Buddha Himal and the Chuli Himal  to the West, the Ganesh Himal to the South and the Sringi Himal to the North. Because of its remoteness and its late opening in October 2007 there is little information and no promotion for a Tsum valley trek. The trekking starts  from Arughat like the trek that goes around the Manaslu. This can be a camping trek or a trek using local lodges, but it is a better idea to do it as a camping trek. One can expect more than two to three weeks trekking in this region. This trek has the particular interest to discover the authentic  lifestyle of Tibetans populations. You will see plenty of stupas, monasteries, and prayer walls. While at the upper end of the valley there is a monk monastery Mu Gompa perched at more than 3700m, lower in the valley, on a flat plain, a large walled rectangle contains the Rachen Gompa, a noun monastery, facing the cave on the side of the valley where Millarepa came to meditate.  ‘Tsum’ is derived from the Tibetan word-Tsombo, which means live. True to its name, the Tsum valley keeps still its natural treasures. Natural and clear streams, teeming with varieties of vegetation, exotic scenery of  mountains, waterfalls, hot springs and ancient relics. An interesting feature of this trek is the contact with the local population, its unique culture and lifestyle that have remained authentic.
