The Kanchenjunga trekking region covers both low and high altitude Nepal trekking destinations. Therefore, this trekking region can accomodate different categories of trekkers. The first timers in high altitude will have lower trekking part and the travelers, who are in good physical condition and are adventure lovers, can have an expedition or a trek with high passes, an excursion through glaciers and rocky hills. Whatever will be chosen, the trekkers will have the opportunity to meet inhabitants of various ethnic groups, to visit Buddhist monasteries, to see chortens, temples and Mani walls. Kanchenjunga region is protected by the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project (KCAP) which is spread over 2035 sq/km. This conservation area is a home of different types of wild animals and birds. The trekking in this region begins with a short flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar or Suketar, a drive from Biratnagar to Basantpur. Then, the route takes you up to the high alpine terrain above Ghunsa village: one of the beautiful village of this region. Finally, you will head up the Lapsung-La, trek to Yalung glacier to reach in the end the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The trekkers get back through the same trail to Suketar or Basantapur and then fly or drive back to Kathmandu.
