Pilgrimage Trekking

Jomsom-Muktinath trekking 17 days

The Jomsom to Muktinath trekking is highly popular in the Annapurna region. It suits to those trekkers who do not have a long time to trek and not enough time to discover the land of the  Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs. The life style in the region has changed little for centuries in this valley where it rains the least in Nepal. The Thakalis who are part of the major ethnic group in this area are renowned for their hospitality. Close to Jomson, the most ancient village of the whole valley, Thinigaon, can still be visited in its rough authenticity. Muktinath village (3800 m) is a place dear to Hindus and Buddhists, as there are sanctuaries for both communities which come  in pilgrimage. Moreover, Muktinath is  placed on the way to the Thorung La  (5416 m), a pass that constitutes  a challenge of the around the Annapurna circuit.

Except for the rise from Kagbeni to Muktinath, the trail follows to bank of the mighty Kali Gandaki River through isolated villages inhabited by Buddhist people from Tibetan origin. At a certain point the Kali Gandaki River flows in the deepest gorges in the world, boarded by the wo giant Annapurna-I (8091m) and Dhaulagiri (8167m) mountains. Needless to say that this trek offers stunning mountain views, even more spectacular from the Poonhill viewpoint.  Discovery of local life styles, traditions, customs, trades and civilization will also be possible as the trail follows the main traditional trading route to Tibet.  As an actual consequence, the trail offers excellent quality  lodging services.

The trip begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, followewd by a flight from Pokharas to Jomsom where the trek starts.  It leads to  Muktinath from where, after an excursion on the trail to the Thorung La, it descends to Jomsom and continues down to Tatopani. It levels up again to Ghorepani/Poonhill,   and descends now , on the South side of the Annapurna chain, to reach Pokhara.

The trek can be customized in different ways. Please contact us, if interested in program changes
